How to get a good deal on bridesmaid dresses

 - by Serena

You’ve just chosen all of your bridesmaids, and you’re all looking forward to shopping, partying, and showers. How exciting-or is it? After you come down out of the clouds, you realize they have to purchase shoes, dresses, accessories and whatever else you require. Fortunately dress shopping doesn’t have to be a financial nightmare. Together you can find awesome deals on bridesmaid dresses.Have each bridesmaid pick her own dress. Most stores use similar fabric and colors in their clothes. Take your bridesmaids shopping as a group and let them select their own dresses. Don’t worry about being uncoordinated. When you shop as a group, everyone will be on the same page. You could also try searching bridesmaid dresses online You  bridesmaids will be able to pick dresses that suite them while simultaneously, getting input from you. This will eliminate most last minute errors having to do with dresses.

Usually bridesmaid dresses are marked up just because they’re for a wedding. For this reason alone, it’s best to skip specialty boutiques to avoid overspending. Try mall retailers to find good deals on bridesmaid dresses. In Addition, look into Department stores for specials. You might also try online stores. If going the online route, make sure to plan in advance. Get correct measurements and check the stores return policy.

Plan in advance because when you’re desperate, there is little room for negotiation. Don’t give the upper hand to retailers. They’ll usually raise prices for seasonal events such as, proms and weddings aren’t any different. When a season ends, item prices are dramatically reduced. Off-season is the perfect time to get steals and deals. Give yourself time between the date you purchase and the wedding in case anything goes wrong.

Rent a bridesmaids dress for the big day. Similar to tuxedo rentals, bridesmaids can rent their dresses for a certain amount of time. As soon as the wedding is over you can return it. Boutiques don’t offer dress rentals, but many online retailers do.

Have you ever heard of the term, “keep it simple”? Over-the-top dresses are costly, but some brides want every detail of their wedding to be perfect. Unfortunately perfection equals expensive, and you may find better deals on simple dresses. Their just as great, but a little toned down. Simple dresses give you an opportunity to make a statement with creativity. You can make it just as fancy or glamorous as the more expensive gowns it’s up to you.

5 Things to Look for When Purchasing a New House

 - by Serena

Purchasing a new home is one of the most important decisions that a person will make in their life. As a result, it is important to do the research necessary to make a well-informed decision. This will help ensure that a buyer finds a home that meets their specific needs and fits within their budget. Buyers should consider the following five things before making their next home purchase.

Location is Key

There are many reasons why buyers should consider location.  The United states is a diverse place whether your from California or Kentucky looking at those famous Louisville properties so you need to consider the following things. As the cost of fuel continues to rise, buyers can save hundreds of dollars each year by purchasing a home in a location that is convenient for them. In addition, a conveniently located home can save buyers hours in travel time each week. That time can then be spent with family or on other important issues. Finally, while most buyers purchase a home with the intent to keep it for years, it is still important to buy a home that will be easier to resell. In future years, new buyers will likely value some of the same factors that buyers value today, such as location. Therefore, purchasing a home in an excellent location may increase its resale value in the future.

The Surrounding Neighborhood is Important

Buyers should not only consider the home itself, but also the surrounding homes in the neighborhood. Homes in well-established neighborhoods are often safer and may provide buyers with more satisfaction. In addition, this is also another factor that can play an important role in maintaining a high resale value. While buyers can make modifications to an existing home to make it more marketable or to help it meet their needs, there is little a buyer can do to improve the surrounding neighborhood. Therefore, this is a critical factor for buyers to consider.

Reputable Builders Often Build Excellent Homes

Most buyers spend much time considering the aesthetics of a home, but relatively little time researching background information on the builder. Reputable builders usually have a good reputation for a reason: they build homes that stand the test of time. There are some builders who use low quality materials to build homes, in order to keep costs low. While this may allow a buyer to purchase a home at a lower cost, the true costs may come later in time. Buyers who buy a home built by a reputable builder will spend less money in repairs over time, will be more likely to enjoy the home they are living in, and will find it much easier to resell the home at a later time.

The Size and Layout Should Be Considered

Buyers should buy a house that fits their needs in terms of size and layout. Buyers should consider things like utility costs, family size, storage space, and parking availability.

Consider Potential Issues

Every buyer should look at a house and consider potential issues. For example, are their family members with disabilities that might make a two-story home a bad fit? Will local insurance companies insure a roof with wood shakes? Is there a home owner’s association with a pet policy that would be overly prohibitive? These are often issues that buyers overlook, but that can create real problems later on.

Places In The World Every Mommy Needs to Visit

 - by Serena

Traveling is just as important for moms as for anyone else. Of course taking along children on a vacation is quite a new and different experience from traveling while single. However don’t think for a minute that it isn’t possible because there are many child friendly places to visit.

Of course the child or children’s ages must be considered before choosing a destination. For an infant or toddler, a parent must make the decision of where to visit. If a child is older, let them help in the decision making of where to take a vacation. Things to consider for moms traveling with children are safety, ease of travel, cost, and children not being bored.

Dude ranch vacations are great destinations for mommy and children. A Dude ranch will have activities for children of various ages and for adults too. A parent can find things to do without the youngsters underfoot. Dude ranch locations are in the United States and in South America.

Cruise ship vacations have great programs for all ages. Try a Carnival Cruise or Disney Family Cruise. There will be a large variety of activities to choose from onboard the ship. Plus they will have childcare centers and babysitters so mommy can enjoy having fun without worrying about the youngsters. Even babies and toddlers are welcome on cruises.

Farm vacations are a great way for families to travel together too. Farmers and their families often open their homes to paid visitors who want to experience life on a farm. Even Amish and Mennonite families have vacation programs. This is a great way for children to learn about farm animals and see country family lifestyles.

If the children are older and like winter weather and winter sports, a ski resort vacation is ideal. The ski resorts will have ski coaches to teach mom and kids how to ski. There will be fun things to do at the ski lodge too. Ski resorts are located all over the world.

Exotic locations can also be kid and mom friendly. Try the Fiji Islands for an unusual place to visit. Find a resort that has child-care and fun things for the children to do while mom relaxes on the beach.

When it time for mom to have a vacation there are many child friendly places all over the world for her and kids to have a great time.

Social Media and Mommy Blogs

 - by Serena

Social Media, defined as web-based social interaction between two or more people, has swept across the world and gained immense popularity over the last decade. Blogging, or keeping a diary on the World Wide Web, is also a popular pastime of today’s generation of technology junkies. One niche in the blogging world is the Mommy Blogger. Mommy Bloggers keep online journals with entries that revolve around their children, their significant other, and anything that has to do with keeping a household running when you are part of a family. Social Media and Mommy Blogs often overlap, allowing for Mommy Bloggers to have a place to meet like-minded bloggers.

There are several advantages to using Social Media for your Mommy Blog. It can be hard for a mother to make time for conversation with other adults when she is shuffling her children between soccer practice, violin lessons, and play dates. Social Media platforms that cater to mothers allow for interaction with other adults on your own time, whether it be during lunch or after the kids are in bed.

In some cases, Mommy Bloggers use their blog as a source of income, advertising products or writing paid blog posts to bring in a few extra bucks each month. Mommy Bloggers that also get involved in related social media websites are able to advertise their blog, bringing in more traffic and the possibility of even more extra bucks. Social Media monitoring is an important aspect for a Mommy Blogger to keep track of their social network’s engagement.  This can lead to more traffic, branding and ultimately increased sales.

There are several types of Social Media platforms that mothers can meet other mothers on. The traditional ones such as Facebook and Twitter are great for finding groups or trending topics that have to do with motherhood and parenthood in general. A quick search of the Internet will show plenty of forums and other types of Social Media that are marketed specifically to blogging mothers and these same websites have helped to form lifelong friendships.

Stretching the Family Budget: 7 Ways to Cut Costs

 - by Serena

The current state of the economy has left many with a tightened budget and a major resource strain. Families are put in a place where they must make a concerted effort to save money and practice frugality. Here are six great ways to stretch a family budget and cut down on expenses:

1. Cut down the grocery bill – Grocery expenses can add up quickly and lead to large bills. To cut down on grocery bills, make sure to buy the off-brand and always attempt to buy what is on sale. If it is not an absolute necessity, keep it out of the cart.

2. Eliminate unneeded services – While TV can be a fun source of entertainment, it is also an extraneous cost. Cut out any unnecessary part of the bill such as movies, DVR, onDemand, HD, and other premium packages.

3. Always compare costs – For things like furniture, home decor, children’s textbooks. There are always ways to cut costs when you find ways to compare things. For instance, if your teenagers need textbooks for college, you should compare textbook prices online.

4. Opt for a staycation instead of a vacation – Oftentimes, a great vacation can be had in one’s very own town. There is plenty to be discovered that one does not notice during everyday life. A staycation eliminates the cost of travel and lodging while still providing much needed relaxation!

5. Cut down on energy costs – When it comes to utility costs, the little things add up. During the winter, seek alternate ways to heat up such as with a sweatshirt and during summer, find new ways to cool down such as effective use of the blinds.

6. Shop around for insurance – These days, insurance companies are jumping on any opportunity to pick up new customers. One can take their policies to a variety of insurance providers to get them to compete against each other resulting in a reduced premium.

7. Find free entertainment – Movies, bars, shows, concerts, and more can quickly drain one’s finances. There is plenty of free entertainment available, which can easily be found via local periodicals and internet searches.

Hard economic times are never desired, but they can teach one how to become more economically sound. It can be fun and surprising to see how far a budget can be stretched. Good luck and remember to focus only on what is necessary.

Successfully Managing Your Finances at Home

 - by Serena

To manage finances at home there are some things you must be able to do. If you are currently having problems with managing your money, keeping accurate records and control of unnecessary spending are the keys to success. Surviving on a limited income is difficult at any time. It is very difficult during a bad economy. Your first step is to set up record keeping. Use a spreadsheet program to make your own list of expenses, or use lined paper and a good calculator, if you are not computer literate.

The first thing to do is make a list of every thing that you owe at this moment. Write down the name of the creditor, the expense category you used the money for and how much you owe, in total and for monthly payments. Add up the total of debts, and the total payments monthly on that debt.

Make a separate section with all of your monthly bills, that are not for payment of debt. List every type of home utility expense separately. List monthly expenses for transportation that are absolutely necessary, such as transportation to and from school for kids. List any other monthly expense that just cannot be cut back or replaced in some way. Make sure you have a minimum of 5% of your monthly income listed as an expenditure for saving. Putting money into your savings account is the first thing you should do every month.

Once you have enough savings that will last you 5 months of living costs, you will need to start investing. The tips on investing is not to invest in all of the same properties. You will want to diversify your portfolio in mutual funds, annuities, stocks, etc… But before you invest in any of these things, you will want to research thoroughly on such things like the best stocks to buy.

Add the total of your current monthly debt to your monthly, non-debt expenses that cannot be eliminated. Subtract that total from your monthly average income. If there is something left over, that is your discretionary income. That is money you can spend on what ever you want, but you should make sure you did not forget some expenses in the must have category. Also, just because there was some discretionary money left over, you do not need to waste it.

Learn, and live, the meaning of frugality. You can do this by applying one simple rule. Do not buy anything that you do not absolutely need to have. Have your family work together on ways to save money. You can do things like buying food in bulk and cooking ahead, storing in meal sized packets for the future. You can cut eating out expenses in half and still have some time to go out.
